How to start a security business in Florida?

Hi All,
I’m рlаnnіng tο ѕtаrt a security company іn South Florida. Providing security guard services. Dοеѕ anyone here hаνе аnу information οn whаt іѕ required frοm thе State οf Florida tο ѕtаrt mу company? (Such аѕ permit, licenses etc..) Cаn anyone guide mе іn thе rіght direction here? Anѕwеrѕ wіll bе greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Go to to find the nearest SCORE chapter. In the upper left hand corner is a box to enter your zip code. Your nearest SCORE chapter will be on the next screen. Contact them to arrange for a free one on one meeting with a SCORE counselor about starting a security business.
SCORE is a nonprofit organization. They provide a public service by offering small business advice and training.
SCORE’s 10,500 volunteers have more than 600 business skills. Volunteers share their wisdom and lessons learned in business. The volunteers are working/retired business owners, executives and corporate leaders.

1. Apply for FEIN Number
2. Contact Insurance Broker for General Liability, Professional Liability
3. Bond with the state
4. Take FL min requirements to be security officer
5. Form either S corp or LLC
6. Once you have four employees you are required by FL Law to carry Work Comp- this will be your biggest on-going cost.
7. Save money!
8. Contact payroll company once you have secured your first job
9. Learn the bidding process
10. Understand that your margins are extremely thin
Question: Why do you want to go into the security business> do you have any experience in that field?
11. When you get to 5 employees contact a P.E.O.- they take most of the ADMIN pain away.
